As a coach, I watch a lot of racing. With this comes nostalgia for my own racing and the question, should I race again? It's been a while since I did an endurance event. I've been scratching my competitive itch through sailing. As a member of the crew racing on Wednesdays nights on Lake Superior is a great competitive outlet but doesn't test ones body in the way that endurance sports do. Because of that I've been toying with getting back into a physical (more physical) sport.
With a busy winter of ski coaching it's not realistic to be a competitive ski racer. This leads me to think of the other sports I've competed in. There are quite a few but none that I took as seriously as skiing. The only other one that comes close is rowing. I've been toying with the idea of resurrecting these skills and as seasons go it fits very well with the busy winters of a ski coach.
Rowing is a sport I really enjoyed as a high school athlete. It also combines physical exertion with time on the water, two things that I crave. As someone that hasn't participated in a team sport in quite a while it will be fun to work as a unit with others trying to move a boat 2000m as fast as I can again.
